Written by Elton John & Bernie Taupin. Produced and remixed by Gus Dudgeon, with a remix by Tuffy. From Two Rooms (1991).
A cover of the 1972 Elton John hit, which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and was a nostalgic tribute to 1950s rock ‘n’ roll. Elton John later said he wrote it as a kind of joke and no longer enjoys playing it. The Beach Boys‘ take plays up the vocal harmonies of that rock ‘n’ roll era and tones down the honky-tonk feel of the original. Gus Dudgeon, who produced Elton’s original recording, produced this version too.
The Beach Boys – Crocodile Rock Lyrics
Crocodile (croc)
Crocodile (ooo)
Crocodile (croc)
Crocodile (wah ooo)
Crocodile (croc)
Crocodile rock (wah ahh)
Crocodile rock
Remem-mem, remember-member (ahhh) (crocodile)
Remem-mem, remember-member (ah ah ah) (crocodile)
Remem-mem, remember-member (ahhh) (crocodile)
Remem-mem, remember-member (ah ah ah ah) (croc, crocodile rock)
I remember when rock was young
Me and Susie had so much fun
Holdin’ hands and skimmin’ stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doin’ a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were rockin’ round the clock
We were hoppin’ and boppin’ to the Crocodile Rock
Well, Crocodile Rockin’ is somethin’ shockin’
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time
And I guess I never will
Oh, Lawdy Mama, those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile Rockin’ was out of si-i-i-ight
Oo oo oo oo (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile rock, crocodile rock)
But the years went by and the rock just died
Susie went and left me for some foreign guy
Long nights cryin’ by the record machine
Dreamin’ of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they’ll never kill the thrills we got
Burnin’ up to the Crocodile Rock
Learnin’ fast as the weeks went past
We really thought the Crocodile Rock would last
Well, Crocodile Rockin’ is somethin’ shockin’
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time
And I guess I never will
Oh, Lawdy Mama, those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
Crocodile Rockin’ was out of si-i-i-ight
Oo oo oo oo (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (croc, croc, croc, croc, croc)
Ohh…
I remember when rock was young
Me and Susie had so much fun
Holdin’ hands and skimmin’ stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doin’ a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were rockin’ round the clock
We were hoppin’ and boppin’ to the Crocodile Rock
Well, Crocodile Rockin’ is somethin’ shockin’
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time
And I guess I never will
Oh, Lawdy Mama, those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile Rockin’ was out of si-i-i-ight
Oo oo oo oo (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (croc, croc, croc, crocodile rock)
Oo oo oo oo (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile rock) (croc, crocodile rock, croc)
Oo oo oo oo (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile rock) (croc, crocodile rock, croc)
Oo oo oo oo (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (remem-mem, remember-member) (crocodile, croc, crocodile)
La la la la la la (crocodile rock) (croc, crocodile rock, croc)
