Peter Murphy – lead vocals, lyrics, arrangement
Paul Statham – guitar, keyboards
Peter Bonas – guitar
Simon Rogers – acoustic guitar

Written by Peter Murphy. Produced by Peter Murphy & Simon Rogers, with a single mix by Nick Rogers. From Deep (Beggars Banquet, 19 December 1989), released as the album’s third single in July 1990, where it reached No. 21 on the US Modern Rock chart. The album version runs about 3:48, with a longer, drum-driven “Version Two” at about 5:20.

A mournful love song built around acoustic guitar and Paul Statham’s plaintive keyboards, which AllMusic called one of Peter Murphy’s strongest lyrics and performances. The single and video use a remixed version with drums, bass, and electric guitars added toward the end, giving it a more pop-oriented feel. In concert, Murphy would sometimes lead the song into a medley with Bauhaus’s “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” It was a modern rock hit alongside “Cuts You Up” and “The Line Between the Devil’s Teeth.”

Peter Murphy – A Strange Kind Of Love Lyrics

A strange kind of love
A strange kind of feeling
Swims through your eyes
And like the doors
To a wide vast dominion
They open to your prize

This is no terror ground
Or place for the rage
No broken hearts
White wash lies
Just a taste for the truth
Perfect taste choice and meaning
A look into your eyes

Blind to the gemstone alone
A smile from a frown circles round
Should he stay or should he go
Let him shout a rage so strong
A rage that knows no right or wrong
And take a little piece of you

There is no middle ground
Or that’s how it seems
For us to walk or to take
Instead we tumble down
Either side left or right
To love or to hate
