George Michael – lead vocals
Elton John – lead vocals

Written by Elton John & Bernie Taupin. Produced and arranged by George Michael, live recording by Chris Porter, recorded at Wembley Arena, London, on 23 March 1991. Released in November 1991 as a charity single (about 5:47), also on Cover to Cover-era releases; it topped the UK chart in 1991 and the US chart in 1992.

The duet began when George Michael invited Elton John onstage as a surprise guest during his Cover to Cover tour, six years after the pair first sang the song together at Live Aid in 1985. Elton had doubts about releasing it, leaving Michael a voicemail warning that the song wasn’t strong enough and that putting it out could end his career. It went on to be a worldwide No. 1, with proceeds going to The London Lighthouse and The Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.

Elton John, George Michael – Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me Lyrics

I can’t light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I’m growin’ tired, and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life

It’s much too late to save myself from fallin’
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meanin’ when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Don’t let the sun go down on me, yeah
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see
I’d just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
But losin’ everything is like the sun goin’ down on me

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Elton John

I can’t find, oh, the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way I feel
Don’t discard me (Baby, no)
Just because you think I mean you harm
(Just because you think I mean you harm, no)
But these cuts I have (Cuts I have)
They need love (They need love, they need love)
To help them heal, oh

Don’t let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see
I’d just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
‘Cause losin’ everything is like the sun goin’ down on me

Don’t let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else that I see, yeah
I’d just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, baby, oh
‘Cause losin’ everything is like the sun goin’ down on me
