Artists
Musicians featured in this piece are:
Tony Sheridan – lead vocals, guitar
John Lennon – rhythm guitar, vocals (on “Ain’t She Sweet”)
Paul McCartney – bass
George Harrison – lead guitar
Pete Best – drums
Produced by Bert Kaempfert, recorded at the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle, Hamburg, June 22–24, 1961. Released on Polydor Records.
This is the session where Bert Kaempfert, having hired the still-unknown Beatles as Tony Sheridan’s backing band, dubbed them “The Beat Brothers” for the record credits — a name change reportedly made because “Beatles” sounded too much like a German slang term Kaempfert found unmarketable.
Tony Sheridan & Beat Brothers – What’d I Say Lyrics
Hey mama don’t you see me wrong
I come and love your daddy all night long
Alright hey hey hey hey
See the gal with the diamond ring
She knows how to shake that thing
Alright hey hey hey hey (play the thing)
See the gal with the red dress on
She knows how to do it all night long
Alright hey hey hey hey
Well tell your mama, tell your pa
Gonna send you back to Arkansas
Alright hey hey don’t do it right now
(Play it now, play that instrument)
Oh when you see me in misery
Well baby save my fee
Alright hey hey hey hey
Oh tell me what’d say
Tell me what’d I say
Tell me what’d I say
Tell me what’d I say
