Released as the second track on It’s a Beautiful Day…Today (Pye Records, 1973), the band’s fourth studio album.
By this point David LaFlamme had already left the band, with Greg Bloch taking over on violin, and reviewers have noted the album sounds quite different from the group’s earlier work as a result. Vocal duties were split mainly between Pattie Santos and her husband Bud Cockrell, and “Child” is frequently singled out as a standout track specifically for Santos’s vocal performance, alongside praise for Val Fuentes‘s drumming and Bloch’s violin playing throughout the record. Bloch went on to join the Italian progressive rock band PFM not long after this album’s release.
It’s A Beautiful Day – Child Lyrics
Child…Child….
You could deceive me,
It would be easy
For you to carry on loving me,
Kissing me, Hugging me,
Kissing me, Hugging me
And then you are gone…
Why? Why?
How you can treat me,
To you so completely,
and I see you last wonder,
to bring someone under,
to bring someone under,
your spell…
And then you are gone…
Child…Child….
I thought you told me,
that you are so lonely,
if you need to try every so long,
you won’t want another woman,
you won’t want another load on…
And I’ll be gone…
And I’ll be gone…
I’ll be gone…
Gone…
