Artists
Musicians featured in this piece are:
Eric Clapton – lead vocals, lead guitar (played through a Leslie cabinet)
George Harrison – rhythm guitar (credited as “L’Angelo Misterioso”)
Jack Bruce – bass guitar
Ginger Baker – drums
Written by Eric Clapton & George Harrison (the album sleeve credited Clapton alone; the UK single and later editions credit both). Produced by Felix Pappalardi.
By contract, George Harrison couldn’t be named on the record, so he was billed as “L’Angelo Misterioso,” Italian for “The Mysterious Angel.” The title came from a mix-up: Clapton read Harrison‘s handwritten “bridge” upside down and asked what “badge” was. Ringo Starr wandered into the session and suggested one of the lyric lines. The song was Clapton‘s contribution to Cream’s farewell album, and he has said he was aiming for simple, funky songs in the spirit of The Band’s debut, after Harrison had earlier brought him in to play on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
Cream – Badge Lyrics
Thinkin’ ’bout the times you drove in my car
Thinkin’ that I might have drove you too far
And I’m thinkin’ ’bout the love that you laid on my table
I told you not to wander ’round in the dark
I told you ’bout the swans, that they live in the park
Then I told you ’bout our kid, now he’s married to Mabel
Yes, I told you that the light goes up and down
Don’t you notice how the wheel goes ’round?
And you’d better pick yourself up from the ground
Before they bring the curtain down
Yes, before they bring the curtain down, woo-ooh
(Yeah yeah yeah)
(Yeah yeah yeah)
Get up, get up, get up (Yeah yeah yeah)
(Yeah yeah yeah-yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah (Yeah yeah yeah)
(Yeah yeah yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah (Yeah yeah yeah)
Talkin’ ’bout a girl that looks quite like you
She didn’t have the time to wait in the queue
She cried away her life since she fell off the cradle
