Bono – lead vocals
The Edge – guitar, backing vocals
Adam Clayton – bass guitar
Larry Mullen Jr. – drums
Brian Eno – backing vocals
Daniel Lanois – backing vocals, additional guitar

Music by U2, lyrics by Bono. Produced by Daniel Lanois & Brian Eno, with Lanois and Eno also credited with mixing. The second track (4:38) on The Joshua Tree (Island Records, 9 March 1987), released as the album’s second single on 25 May 1987.

The song grew out of a jam session and a rolling, stomping beat that Larry Mullen Jr. had created for a demo, which Daniel Lanois latched onto and which became the root of the track. The Edge brought a gruff acoustic guitar line, a melody, and the title, and Bono, guided by Lanois, shaped the lyric around gospel themes of spiritual yearning. Lanois, Eno, and Edge multi-tracked backing vocals to evoke a choir. It became U2’s second consecutive US number one, reaching the top of the Hot 100 on 8 August 1987 (and No. 6 in the UK), and the band shot its video on Fremont Street in Las Vegas on 12 April 1987.

U2 – I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For Lyrics

I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colours will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes, I’m still running

You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believe it

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
