Artists

Elton John – lead vocals
Leonard Cohen – lead vocals
John Guerin – drums
Steve Lindsey – arrangements

Written by Ted Daffan. Produced by Steve Lindsey, with John Hendrickson as assistant engineer. From Duets (Rocket/MCA, 22 November 1993); length about 4:33.

A country standard first recorded by Ted Daffan’s Texans in the early 1940s and later made famous by Ray Charles in 1962. It’s one of the more unexpected pairings on Duets, setting Elton John against the gravelly baritone of Leonard Cohen. Opinions at the time were mixed, with some reviewers calling it a highlight of the album and others finding it the weaker of the duets.

Elton John, Leonard Cohen – Born To Lose Lyrics

Born to lose
I’ve lived my life in vain
Every dream has only brought me pain
All my life I’ve always been so blue
Born to lose
And now I’m losing you

Born to lose
Oh it seems so hard to bear
When I wake and find that you’re not there
Ooh you’ve grown tired and now you say we’re through
I’m born to lose
And now I’m losing you

Born to lose
I’ve lived my life in vain
Every dream has only brought me pain
All my life I’ve always been so blue
Born to lose
And now I’m losing you
Born to lose
And now I’m losing you

Now I’m losing you
