Written by Les Holroyd. Produced by Barclay James Harvest & Martin Lawrence, recorded at Strawberry Studios (North), July–September 1979. Released as the opening track on Eyes of the Universe (Polydor Records, November 1979); also issued as a single.
“Love on the Line” opens Eyes of the Universe, the first Barclay James Harvest album recorded as a three-piece following keyboardist Woolly Wolstenholme‘s departure. With no dedicated keyboardist for most of the record, Les Holroyd and John Lees split keyboard duties themselves on other tracks, later bringing in session player Kevin McAlea for the more synth-heavy numbers — though “Love on the Line” itself was handled entirely by the core trio.
Barclay James Harvest – Love On The Line Lyrics
Love like a burning fire
Creeping up on you
Watch as the flame grows higher
Can you see it through?
Don’t you know the dice is cast?
Got to keep on running faster than time
And you’re riding high above
Are you gonna lay your love on the line?
Out where the light is burning
There’s a heart that’s true
Sounds of the night returning
Put a spell on you
Don’t you know the dice is cast?
Got to keep on running faster than time
And you’re riding high above
Are you gonna lay your love on the line?
