Written by Fred Webb & Tom Thompson. Produced by Paul Baratta, engineered by Eric Prestidge, mastered by Doug Sax. Released as the sixth track (3:19), on It’s a Beautiful Day…Today (Columbia Records, 1973).

Unlike the sprawling, LaFlamme-written instrumental workouts that defined the band’s debut, “Time” is a shorter, more straightforward ballad from the Today album, sung here by drummer Val Fuentes rather than one of the group’s usual lead vocalists. One Discogs reviewer singled it out as the main reason the otherwise divisive album has stayed in their collection, praising it specifically as a beautiful ballad. The song was written not by the LaFlammes but by keyboardist Fred Webb, who AllMusic review credits with the album’s strongest songwriting overall, alongside co-writer Tom Thompson.

It’s A Beautiful Day – Time Lyrics

Time takes a long time to know
It’s gone time now
While the wind is whispering, come home to me
And to see she’s waiting all alone for me

But time takes a long time to know
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm
While the dead speak in eternity
When the night is asking don’t wait for me
‘Cause time takes a long time to know

Mm-hmm
It’s gone time now.
It keeps slipping by time.
It’s a long gone time now

It's A Beautiful Day Time
